DALLAS (AP) — It was 18 months ago when George P. Bush — Jeb Bush’s oldest child — was elected Texas land commissioner, just a few weeks past his 40th birthday.
He’s quietly continuing his family’s political legacy.
The grandson of a former president and nephew of another, George P. Bush is a rising star in America’s largest conservative state.
And he’s keeping alive the possibility that a political dynasty — declared dead by many when his dad flamed out of the 2016 presidential race — could return to national prominence.
What remains to be seen is whether he can survive in a political world turned upside down by Donald Trump — where Republican primary voters overwhelmingly embraced the ultimate outsider who promises to smash the political establishment the Bushes embodied for decades.
