PINECREST, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida sergeant has been on a lifesaving streak and is being hailed a hero after coming to the aid of four people.
Pinecrest Police Sgt. Sigfredo Badillo is being recognized a fourth time for saving lives after a man on a moped was struck by a driver who drove off, on April 17. Badillo spoke to 7News about the streak. "Seconds, seconds that matters," he said. "No one deserves to die like that."
With some help, Badillo began CPR on the moped rider until the victim began breathing once again. "I’ve never seen something like that," said one witness.
Dashcam video captured another save at a McDonald’s parking lot in September 2008. "We were able to bring him back," Badillo said.
Officials used an automated external defibrillator, AED as well as CPR. "It’s amazing that Sergeant Badillo has been able to do this multiple times," said Pinecrest Police Chief Samuel Ceballos, Jr. "He’s never hesitated for a second."
Badillo also resuscitated a woman who was not breathing after she suffered a heart attack. While off-duty, he managed the same feat on State Road 836 until rescue crews arrived and took over.
He’s managed to give those who need help life again. When he goes home at the end of the day, he told 7News what he tells his children. "I just tell them, ‘Hey, look, dad was lucky enough to be in the right place, in the right time," Badillo said. "I was able to make a difference today."
The hit-and-run victim who Badillo saved remains in critical condition at Kendall Regional Medical Center.
