Kathy Kramer of the Children’s Bereavement Center says it is important to introduce the concept of death to your child from age 2 on up.
If you see a dead bird or lizard in the park … stop and talk about it. “It can be a teachable moment where a parent or caregiver might say, ‘Oh, that birdie died and that means its body has stopped working.'”
Then, follow your child’s lead. Kathy says answer any questions they might have.
