WSVN — Chef Philip Darmon of Hardy Park Bistro in Fort Lauderdale says keeping your kitchen knives sharp is easy. Using a whetstone is the best way.. You can get them online or at specialty stores.

Philip Darmon: "We’re just going to put a little bit of oil on it and coat that up.  It’s really important to keep a steady angle on your knife.  About 40 degrees and whatever we do to one side of the blade, we want to do to the other. So I’m going to count, let’s say five now. One, two, three, four, five… and then I’m going to move around and do the same- three, four, five."

Now Chef Philip repeats that on the other side of the knife- and it’s working!

Philip Darmon: "See on the knife there- all that dark particle? That’s the metal being ground away."

Clean it off and give it a final polish with a steel knife sharpener.

Philip Darmon: "I pull it towards myself and that’s it…  and there we’ve got the sharp blade."

It’s just a minute’s work, and your knives are good as new.
