WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says that if a video purportedly showing the immolation of a Jordanian pilot at the hands of Islamic State militants is authentic, it would be more evidence of the group’s “viciousness and barbarity.”
Obama says that if the video is genuine, it would “redouble the vigilance and determination on the part of our global coalition to make sure they are degraded and ultimately defeated.”
He said Tuesday that if the video is authentic, it would indicate that “whatever ideology they are operating out of is bankrupt.”
The video appears to show the death of a 26-year-old Jordanian pilot held by the militants since his F-16 crashed in Syria in December. It was released on militant websites and bore the logo of the Islamic State’s al-Furqan media service.
