WASHINGTON (AP) — Today, President Barack Obama meets at the White House with Democratic and Republican leaders.
It’s a chance to break bread and sit down and talk following Tuesday’s elections in which Republicans won the majority of seats in the Senate and gained a tighter grip on the House.
Obama is inviting 16 top-ranking lawmakers to search for territory ripe for compromise.
But the issue of immigration reform already has created some tension, with Obama saying this week that if Congress didn’t act soon, he’d act on his own before the end of the year.
