WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama says U.S. laws and regulations haven’t yet caught up with technological developments that have made drones readily available.
Obama is responding to the small drone that crashed on the White House grounds while he was traveling in India. Obama says it’s a broader problem.
Obama says in a CNN interview that the drone that crashed early Monday was the kind you could buy at Radio Shack.
He says the U.S. must develop a legal architecture to make sure drones don’t become a safety risk or violate people’s privacy.
Obama has asked the Federal Aviation Administration and other U.S. agencies to figure out how to manage drones. He says drones are incredibly useful but the U.S. doesn’t yet have the framework to make sure they’re safe.
