LOS GATOS, California (WSVN) — Existing Netflix customers will soon notice that their monthly subscription price is increasing from $7.99 to $9.99 a month.
Netflix’s price increase will come with some new additions to the streaming service. In 2016, Netflix is launching over 600 hours of original programming, including over 35 new series for kids, eight new feature films, a dozen new documentaries and nine stand-up comedy specials.
It is estimated that 17 million customers will be affected by the increase.
Customers have the option of keeping their $7.99 plan but it will only be available in SD not HD.
In May of 2014, Netflix raised the prices for new subscribers from $8.99 to $9.99 per month. Existing subscribers were previously grandfathered into the $7.99 plan.
