WSVN — Fall is here and it’s time to switch up your decor. You don’t have to go out and buy new things to get a new look. Our makeover maestro is sharing a trio of tips to transform one thing we all have around home into three new decorative pieces.

Martin Amado: “Fall is the perfect opportunity to recycle and repurpose things you might have around the house. Instead of tossing it, why not give it a fresh new look? On today’s Room For Improvement, I’m going to show you three simple do-it-yourself projects using an old mirror.”

Martin Amado: “I love this mirror, I’ve had it for years and it’s made in India. So, very exotic. But, the best part is the price. It was originally $68 and I got it for $5, so super bargain. The first project is to turn this mirror into a center piece for your table.”

Martin Amado: “I’m using small cabinet knobs to place on each corner with hot glue, using them as feet to elevate the mirror off the table. A little bit more decorative.”

Martin Amado: “How easy was that? Now, we turn it around and we have a decorative tray. We can place some candles, some Fall leaves around the base and we have the perfect centerpiece for a dining room table.”

Martin Amado: “For the next project, I’m getting rid of the mirror and because we have such a beautiful detailed frame, we’re using it for a photograph.”

Martin Amado: “At my local framing shop, I had a piece of glass custom cut. The same thing with my photo mat, so we have a beautiful, decorative border.”

Martin Amado: “I’m using a beautiful postcard for my image, in the very center.”

Martin Amado: “If you have any scuff marks, you can always touch it up with a marker.”

Martin Amado: “Once hung on the wall, you have a one-of-a-kind piece of art.”

Martin Amado: “And finally, the third project is to keep the frame. Insert a cork surface in the center and now you have a unique bulletin board for your office.”

Martin Amado: “I’m using the actual mirror as a guide to cut down the cork.”

Martin Amado: “You place it in the center. Perfect fit. Place our original backing and lock it down.”

Martin Amado: “Truth be known, I almost donated these mirrors but I loved the frame so much that I came up with these three projects. Hope it inspires you to do the same. For 7News, I’m Martin Amado.”
