MIAMI (WSVN) — South Florida students are taking on a campaign to do away with guns.
What started as a 7th grade class project at Carrie P. Meek Elementary then turned into a personal campaign.
Just weeks into the project, a classmate lost her 6-year-old brother, King Carter, when he was shot to death in Northwest Miami-Dade.
Others also felt her pain. "It kinda makes me sad, even though it’s not my brother, because I would know how it feels to loose a sibling," said 7th grader Kevin Jones.
Students wrote to lawmakers, lobbied for new laws and pushed for more programs to keep them safe.
