Michael Hamilton

WSVN — As a kid Michael Hamilton was full of energy.Cathy Hamilton-Green: "He loved to play basketball. It was funny because he even slept with his basketball sometimes."As an adult, he was a friend everyone counted on.Mark Hamilton: "He was always helping people out."Cathy Hamilton-Green: "He was just one of those guys that you always knew had your back."31-year-old Michael had a lot of good friends and was doing well at work after being promoted to manager at a Coral Springs restaurant, and then it happened.Detective Brian Koenig, Coral Springs Police Dept. "We got a call just before 1 a.m. on July 10, 2011 from the roommate of Michael Hamilton. She came home and found him deceased inside their apartment."It was a brutal bloody murder.Detective Brian Koenig: "It was multiple sharp force injuries."So much blood the suspect may have also been wounded, but before getting away, the killer left behind important cluesLike this footprint in Michael's blood from an Adidas Mega Torsion sneaker.Detective Brian Koenig: "That's really significant to us in that not that many people bought that shoe., so we're hoping that maybe, maybe you purchased a shoe for a friend or a boyfriend or something like that and remembers that shoe, and is able to come forward and provide that information."Another clue, the killer took an airsoft toy rifle from Michael's apartment. That looked and felt like a real gun.Detective Brian Koenig: "We do know it resembled an AR-15 or an M-4 carbine rifle, and it had attached to it a scope on the top of the airsoft gun."Then as detective Koenig retraced Michael's last day, he discovered he had gone to Sawgrass Mills and as this video shows, returning alone.Mark Hamilton: "I think he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think it was just a robbery gone bad."Ironically the last time his mother had seen him she had taken him shopping to buy new clothes to celebrate his promotion at work.Cathy Hamilton-Green: "It was good, but how do you know that's your last day? How do you ever know that." Patrick Fraser: "It's been a year and a half since Michael was killed. Parents and friends have offered a $5,000 reward hoping someone would reveal some information. Now detectives hope revealing the killer wore an Adidas Mega Torsion and took an airsoft rifle might stir someone's memory."Detective Brian Koenig: "I just hope somebody has it in their heart and has a conscious that's maybe getting to them. I don't know how you can continue to hold this in protecting somebody that did something that was really, really brutal." Everyone says because it's true, no-one ever expects this to happen to their family.Cathy Hamilton-Green: I'm still even 16 months later, cannot believe this has happened. I want to wake up from this nightmare … I truly truly do. It was unbelievable. I was in shock … I'm still kind of in shock. It's not easy the worst thing you can think of."The murder of their son easily the worst thing that can happen to a parent.Maybe you can help.
