MIAMI (WSVN) — A man is recovering after being shot in an alleged drive-by shooting, Saturday afternoon.

According to police, at around 1 p.m. between Northwest Seventh Court and Northwest 56th Street, a man was shot in broad daylight. "The victim was like, ‘I’m shot! I’m shot! Call the police! I’m shot!’" said neighbor Jorge Martin. "He was laying on the ground, literally, and that’s when I jumped up and I came out."

Witnesses say a car pulled up to the man and the shooter opened fire, hitting the man in the thigh. The victim then collapsed to the ground. "When he got hit, he fell. That’s what saved his life because they kept firing, said witness Evan Crawford. "The bullets went over his head. He was on the ground. He got up and ran again."

Crawford was walking his dog when he saw the drive-by 10 feet away from him. "The guys came in a burgundy car," said Crawford. "The guy in the passenger seat started firing … hitting the guy in the leg."

The man was able to carry himself home for help. He was then quickly rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive.

Officials are still working to identify those involved. Investigators spent Saturday afternoon searching for shell casings and evidence.
