KENDALL, Fla. (WSVN) — Some South Florida officers took a break from their law enforcing duties Wednesday morning to put their food serving skills to the test.

Miami-Dade Police officers brewed coffee and dished out breakfast for diners at the Dunkin’ Donuts location on Kendall Drive and Southwest 97th Avenue. The appearance by the servers in uniform raised funds for the Police Officer Assistance Trust, a nonprofit organization supporting Miami-Dade law enforcers and their families in times of need.

According to franchisee Chris Mellgren, the event goes toward a good cause and is also an ideal opportunity for area residents to meet local officers. “We’re doing that all month long; we’re giving away a dollar for every dozen [donuts] that we sell. We’re donating that back,” said Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee Chris Mellgren. “The officers were nice to come and support us, and so it’s a great opportunity to get some community involvement, meet the police and also have them meet their community.”

Guests who missed Wednesday’s event can still take advantage of a special offer at that particular Dunkin’ Donuts. Customers who come into the shop from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. will receive a free medium coffee along with their purchase through Feb. 19. During this period, one dollar from every dozen donuts sold will benefit the nonprofit.
