MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — Officers in Miami-Dade County will soon be wearing body camera after commissioners approved the purchase, Tuesday.
The Miami-Dade Police Department was asked to study the use of body cameras back in Fall of 2012, according to a statement from Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
"With today’s approval, approximately 1,000 Miami-Dade police officers will be equipped with body-worn cameras by the end of the year. I am confident that these cameras will showcase the good work that our officers perform and will serve as an effective tool to better connect our police department with our community," Mayor Gimenez said in a statement.
Gimenez also announced the approval on Twitter and voiced his gratitude and goals for Miami-Dade residents.
I thank the Board of County Commissioners who voted to approve the contract award for body worn cameras & a video management solution. (1/3)
