WSVN — Martin Amado: “Today’s Room for Improvement is a simple do it yourself project that can take a dated element in a bathroom and literally turn it into a master pieces for less than $30 dollars. Are you feeling inspired? Let me show you.”Martin Amado: “Many of us have a medicine cabinet like this one and although we appreciate the storage that it gives us inside, we are not too crazy about the mirrored door. So, today we are turning it into artwork.”

Martin Amado: “Basic supplies that you need are a picture frame, preferably the same size as the medicine cabinet door, a drill, a measuring tape, and your choice in terms of the artwork you want to place inside. In this case, I’m actually using gift wrapping paper.”

Martin Amado: “All right, so let’s begin by removing the door.”

Martin Amado: “A good tip to make the project go smoother is to buy a picture frame that’s the same size as the medicine cabinet door.”

Martin Amado: “Now, we install the new hinge behind the picture frame using the old cabinet door as a reference.”

Martin Amado: “Perfect. It’s always best to pre drill so that you don’t crack the frame.”

Martin Amado: “You also want to make sure that you use smaller screws because longer ones can go through the frame and crack the glass. We don’t want that to happen.”

Martin Amado: “The hinges are on. Let’s go ahead and do a test fit.”

Martin Amado: “Looking good.”

Martin Amado: “Everything works properly. Now, we can get creative with the image. Of course, you can use a regular photograph, but in my case I’m using this gift wrapping paper because I love the pattern. Its going to give it a very modern style.”

Martin Amado: “You can also use a piece of fabric if you like. Use your imagination.”

Martin Amado: “I love it.”

Martin Amado: “Let’s install this baby.”

Martin Amado: “Beautiful. Now, to make sure the door locks in place, I’m using a small magnet with a metal plate on the actual door.”

Martin Amado: “All right, so we took a common medicine cabinet door and in its place, now we have functional art. I love it. I hope you do as well. Its an easy project you can do for less than 30 dollars for all the materials. Until next time, I’m Martin Amado for Room for Improvement.”
