WSVN — They say you get what you deserve in life, but Marceau Herne certainly did not.
Frank Illaraza: "He had gone shopping earlier that night and he had gone to church services, and he was in the choir."
It was two days before Christmas in 2002 after singing at his church choir, after buying his family presents, Marceau drove home.
His daughter would tell 7 News what happened next.
Diane Herne: "I was in my room and I heard a gunshot and after the gunshot I ducked down and I heard a person drive away really fast."
Police say Diane and her mother were afraid to come outside to see what had happened to Marceau.
Frank Illaraza: "So at that point then they waited a few minutes and then they called 91. Our deputies responded and found him laying inside the front seat of his car."
Marceau had not been robbed. He was shot and killed.
Kesner Herne: "I always missing my brother."
Marceau's brother is devastated. Marceaus wife and daughter are silent.
Kesner Herne: "Diane loves her dad so much, but she is scared to talk she is very scared to talk."
Marceaus wife and daughter are refusing to talk to Kesner, and have hired an attorney and wont talk to police. That made Det. Illaraza so suspicious he blocked the life insurance company from paying Marceaus wife.
Frank Illaraza: "The insurance company sent me a letter indicating this person be ruled out as being involved or having any involvement in the death, and I said at this point in time we cannot rule this person out. That person remains a person of interest."
After that, the detective expected Marceaus wife to call and complain. Maybe come in and talk. She did not so Kesner went and confronted Marcueas daughter.
Kesner Herne: "The last time I have seen her I tried to ask her some question about her dad and she puts her eyes away. She refused to keep her eyes on me. She said, 'Oh, Kesner, I don't want to answer any such questions.'"
Patrick Fraser: "Everybody has questions but no answers who killed Marceau. Det. Illaraza says he thinks he knows what happened in that front yard, but proving what happened is a completely different thing. That's why he needs help from someone watching right now."
Frank Illaraza: "There's friends out there, there's family members who I'm sure must suspect something or know something. All we're doing is asking that if they do know something just give us a call. They don't have to give us a name just give us a clue somewhere that we can reach out to."
Normally when a father is murdered, his wife and children keep calling the police to find out if they have found the killer. Det. Illaraza says he has not heard from Marceaus wife and daughter just from a devastated brother.
Kesner Herne: "I feel so angry you know. I just miss him a lot because sometime when I have a problem I don't have anyone to call. I'm so miserable."
Miserable and hopeful that as this Christmas season rolls around. The seventh Christmas since Marceau was gunned down. Someone will point a finger at a killer.
Frank Illaraza: "That's why we wanted to do this around this time because it might motivate someone with the holidays coming around they might remember this event and might decided to give us a call."
