NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — Miami-Dade Fire Rescue saved a man from nearly drowning in a North Miami Beach canal, Wednesday morning.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Alfredo Roman was crabbing in a canal, in the area of 163rd Street and Northeast Biscayne Boulevard when his foot got caught in a crab trap. As Roman struggled in pain, he was able to grab onto a nearby pillar, trying his best to stay afloat.

Thankfully, he was able to grab the attention of a nearby fisherman, who called police.

Soon after, he was safely removed from the trap and pulled out of the water by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. "I was a little worried," said Roman in relief. "They are heroes."

Fire rescue was able to film the moment firefighters Charles Brodbeck and Arnold Segui saved Roman.

"He was very thankful, very thankful," said Brodbeck. "I don’t think he wanted to spend anymore time than he had to on that pillar."

"We were just doing our job, that’s how we look at it," said Segui, "just doing our job. We love doing our job. This is what we got in for, to do our job and help people that need us."

Roman said he was thankful for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
