OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (WSVN) — Police are investigating a double shooting that left a man dead and his girlfriend injured. The deceased’s father made the horrific discovery.
The fatal shooting happened at about 3 a.m. Thursday at 132nd Street and Northwest 30th Avenue. The man’s father said he heard the shots and came outside and found his son, 27-year-old David Booth, dead in his car. “I was sleeping and heard the shots, and I ran out, and I found him lifeless in his passenger seat, car still running,” said Frank Booth.
His son died a month shy of his birthday. “My son, he’ll be 28 next birthday,” said Booth.
The victim’s cousin said she was told the victim and his girlfriend were sitting in his car, watching something on an iPad, when someone shot them.
A neighbor said he heard several successive gunshots. Curtis Smith said, “All I head was five to six, seven or eight shots. Da-da-da-da-da. It sounded like fireworks to me. I just heard a lot of screaming. ‘Oh, she hit, she hit!'”
The woman was airlifted to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center. Booth died at the scene. “He’s a good dude,” said Smith. “He’s a good guy. I never seen him argue with nobody. I never seen him do nothing to nobody. He’s a good guy. I’m just trying to figure out why did all this happen?”
Police are now searching for the shooter. “I’m just asking, if anybody knows anything, please call Crime Stoppers,” said Booth’s father.
