PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) — The driver of a box truck is dead after rear-ending a tractor trailer Thursday morning.

According to police, the driver of the tractor trailer was traveling southbound on US 27 when the driver of the box truck rammed into it on Johnson Street, in Pembroke Pines.

Fire Rescue crews used special tools to free the driver of the truck who had been trapped as a result of the accident.

He was then airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The other driver was not injured.

The crash caused a cargo of watermelons to spill around the scene of the accident.
