MIAMI (WSVN) — Lyft has launched a new service called "Lyft Line" which will allow passengers to share their ride with others going the same way for a discounted fare.

Lyft said they are aiming to reduce traffic by filling unoccupied seats with riders headed in the same direction. Fares will be 40 percent cheaper than a normal ride.

In addition to the discounted rides, Lyft has introduced an "Extra Discount Zone," where rides will be the most affordable, covering all of Miami’s downtown, Brickell, Wynwood, South Beach and Coral Gables.

Lyft Line is only available in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Last year, Uber launched a similar-service called "UberPOOL."

To use the service, simply download the Lyft app and select "Lyft Line."
