SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Zoo Miami is unveiling a new entrance plaza and flamingo exhibit, Friday.

The zoo’s new entrance plaza has a new 3D sculptural sign, colorful and life-sized animal silhouettes and a brand new gift shop.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and other elected officials were in attendance for the big reveal.

Officials said they’re excited to finally show off the update. “I think it’s one of the great first impressions that we present here at this park, this institution,” said Zoo Miami Communications Director Ron Magill. “This zoo is headed in such an incredible direction with such wonderful growth on the horizon, and I think this is a wonderful first impression for that growth.”

The $19 million project also upgraded a new exhibit for the flock of flamingos to inhabit.
