DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A 77-year-old Port Orange woman who shot her husband while trying to shoot herself will serve two years of house arrest.

Carolyn Spivey received the sentence on Friday, almost a year after shooting George Spivey. She will then be on probation until she’s 89.

She was convicted of shooting into a building, which is a second degree felony.

The state attorney’s office says terms of her probation include no violent contact with her husband, mental health treatment and counseling. She’s also prohibited from drugs and alcohol or possessing firearms.

According to news reports at the time, the Spiveys were arguing and Carolyn Spivey was threatening to harm herself when the gun went off, striking her husband.
