WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - The owners of a South Florida electronics store are asking for the public’s help in catching a group of crafty thieves who, police said, broke in and took off with thousands of dollars in merchandise.

Surveillance footage from the heist at Xtreme Cellular and Electronics in West Miami-Dade shows the thieves cleaning out all the phones and tablets from the store in the overnight hours of Aug. 8.

But this wasn’t a typical break-in. The store’s public insurance adjuster, Leor Rabin, said they triggered the store’s security alarm first, prompting police to respond.

“They removed the hatch, they cut the bars, and they triggered the alarm intentionally. They wanted to see how long will it take for the police to get here,” Rabin said. “The police called [the owners], they told them we were here, we all saw. It’s all good,” Rabin said.

Rabin said the thieves then came back to the store and cleared it out, putting tens of thousands of dollars worth of cellphones and tablets into bags before they got away. “Both of them operated at the same time,” Rabin said. “They were able to take between six to seven bags.”

The thieves, who covered their faces, got to the store’s storage office, where the most expensive phones and tablets are stored. They then headed into the warehouse, where they had placed a ladder to the skylight. “[They took] iPads, iPhones, Androids, Galaxies and most of the Posh material,” Rabin said. “All of them are gone.”

The victims are the South Florida and Caribbean distributors for Posh Mobile.

Now, the store’s owners are trying to figure out how much they’ve been taken for, and how to help authorities catch the bold thieves who removed glass, cut through steel and descended their way to a burglary that, police said, could’ve only been done by professionals.

If you have any information on this burglary, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
