MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - Water in a Miami Gardens neighborhood has been turned back on after a water main break earlier in the day, but some residents are being warned to boil it.
The break happened near the area of Northwest 191st Street and 42nd Avenue in Miami Gardens, just before 4 p.m., Wednesday.
Miami-Dade Water and Sewer said the break came from one of the county-owned water lines, and the department has a crew on scene repairing the eight-inch pipe.
Because of the break, officials said up to 80 homes are under a boil water notice. No word has been given when the notice is expected to be called off.
“I couldn’t even believe what was happening,” resident Shenita Greaves said. “It was gushing up, and it was flooding the street, and it looked like it was no end.”
Officials have not said how much water was released.
Trinese Henderson, the owner of a nearby daycare, called the water main break a “nightmare.”
“What could happen is that they’re gonna cut the water off probably to fix this problem,” Henderson said. “In the meantime, I’m not gonna have any water. We’re not gonna be able to flush the toilets, and we’re not gonna be able to wash our hands, so we need it fixed quickly.”
By 10 p.m., the water had stopped gushing out of the ground.
Crews worked into the night to repair the pipe, and the roads have since reopened.
