MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Police have released surveillance video showing a man stabbing a woman and her mother inside a Miami Beach grocery store, late last year.

The security footage shows a heavy-set man, later identified as 63-year-old Joseph Floyd Kennett, inside the Christal Food Store, located at 7451 Collins Ave., Dec. 2. Moments later, he is seen punching a woman standing behind him, identified as 27-year-old Jennifer Gaal. The victim is then seen falling to the floor.

Seconds later, Gaal is seen striking back at her attacker, just before Gaal’s mother, identified as 55-year-old Blanca Nieves, enters the store and tries to intervene. Kennett is then seen reaching for an object inside his right pant pocket. Police said he used the object to slash and stab the women repeatedly.

Detectives said the footage captures Kennett stabbing Gaal three times in the stomach and Nieves once in the chest.

Speaking with 7News hours after the incident, Gaal’s sister, Jacqueline Nieves, asked for the public’s prayers. “I hope that you guys can pray for my family,” she said. “My sister is a very good person, and my mom is a very good person.”

Police said they caught up with Kennett, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 295 pounds, as he tried to get away.

Investigators said the victims had gone to the store on a beer run.

Friday afternoon, 7News showed the disturbing footage to a woman who works next to Christal. “Oh, my God, I have the goose bumps, because I work next to the store,” said Georgina Fernandez.

Gaal and Nieves have were released from the hospital and continue to recover.

Kennett remains behind bars on charges of attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is next expected to appear in court on June 2.
