Miami Police, Verizon Wireless and Do the Right Thing are teaming up for a cellphone recycling drive for Domestic Violence Awareness month.

The organizations are urging people to donate and recycle used cellphones and accessories. Phones from all service providers, makes and models are accepted.

HopeLine, the recycling initiative, will have boxes available in six locations around the city:

  • Miami Police Department (central, south and north station lobbies)
    400 N.W. 2nd Ave.
  • Miami City Hall
    3500 Pan American Drive
  • Miami Riverside Center
    444 S.W. 2nd Ave.
  • Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office
    1320 N.W. 14th St.
  • Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office
    1350 N.W. 12th Ave.
  • Subway
    6265 N.W. 7th Ave.

Donations can also be made at all company-owned Verizon Wireless retail locations.

The phones collected are refurbished and then sold. Verizon Wireless uses the proceeds to fund nonprofit agencies and to purchase other wireless phones for victims of domestic violence in the Miami and South Florida areas.
