NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Police have taken two 19-year-olds in custody after an Uber driver was carjacked in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Thursday afternoon, the subjects were identified as Deontay Bivins and Dave Petit-Homme. They were arrested and charged with armed robbery carjacking.

According to Miami-Dade Police, 28-year-old Jose Myrick, an Uber driver, picked up the two men in Opa-locka, early Thursday morning.

“I brought them from Opa-locka area to city area,” said Myrick.

The Uber driver was transporting the passengers in his backseat, when he made a stop at a red light, located at the intersection of Northwest 67th Street and 32nd Avenue. “And I drove them to drop them off, and then they pulled out their guns on me,” he said. “They tell me to get out of the car.”

Police said Petit-Homme had a semi-automatic gun in his hand, and Bivins was holding a revolver.

Myrick said he heard a peculiar sound when he stopped to let the riders out. “When I heard, ‘click, click,’ that’s when I knew something wasn’t right,” he said. “When I heard, ‘click, click,’ all I did was look back, and as soon as I looked back, I saw one gun and I grabbed the other one, and I grabbed that one. I grabbed the barrel of both of them. Next thing I know, they were pointing them at me, so, I was just spreading them out, so they don’t shoot me.”

During the struggle, Myrick said, one of the subjects yelled, “Shoot him!” Still, he was able to was able to get out of his gray Chevy Impala moments before the carjackers fled the scene in his car.

Thankfully, he was then able to run to a nearby gas station, located about five blocks down the road, where a Miami-Dade Police officer was parked. He immediately described to the officer what had just happened.

Myrick was not hurt.

Shortly after, through investigative means, detectives were able to locate the vehicle and the two subjects near Northwest 143rd Street and 14th Drive.

Throughout the ordeal, Myrick said, he thought about his two young sons. “Crazy. “It is what it is,” he said. “It’s my life. I’ve got two kids, and I couldn’t stand it that they would take me away like that from my boys.”
