DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) - A tractor trailer turned over on the westbound exit ramp from U.S. 441 to the Florida Turnpike in Davie, Wednesday afternoon, leaving the cab hanging over the ramp and the trailer crashed below.

At around 4:45 p.m., the cab of the tractor trailer could be seen partially hanging over the edge of the ramp, but the driver and his dog had exited safely. The cab’s trailer had already fallen over the ramp’s edge and landed on its side, spilling crushed glass off the roadway.

Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of the truck turned along the exit ramp curve too fast. “[He] lost control and overturned. As you can see, the trailer disconnected and ended up down below,” said FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

By 6 p.m., emergency crews were able to pull the cab back from the ramp’s edge, but the ramp was closed for hours and traffic had to be rerouted as crews cleaned the rest of the scene.

“He’s very fortunate that it did roll over — turn over — that it wasn’t right over the wall on the 595, or in another area where the glass would have been spilled all over, along with the tractor trailer,” Wysocky said.

The ramp has since reopened and the driver faces a citation for careless driving.
