CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. (WSVN) - An 18-year-old accused of stealing a car involved in a deadly hit and run crash in Coral Springs is now officially facing charges for the fatal crash.

Gregory Holt, who celebrated his 18th birthday on the night of incident, faces charges of vehicular homicide, driving without a license and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

According to investigators, Holt stole a BMW from an Airbnb home, on Sept. 25, and took it on a high speed joy ride before losing control and crashing into 39-year-old Charlie Ruiz’s vehicle on State Road 7.

Ruiz was driving home from work when he was hit, and he eventually lost his life shortly after being taken to Broward Health North.

Authorities said Holt fled the scene immediately, running to a nearby complex to borrow a phone and call a cab without reporting the incident.

According to the warrant, Holt’s phone was found inside the car, and people who know Holt told investigators that he was the driver of the BMW that night.
