WEST BROWARD, FLA. (WSVN) - A rollover accident involving a tanker truck in Western Broward County shut down parts of U.S. 27 and Interstate 75, Thursday.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units cleared the tanker from the scene Thursday night after hours of work.

This happened on the exit ramp from I-75 westbound to U.S. 27 southbound.

The truck was carrying over 8,000 gallons of fuel and about 100 gallons of it leaked out at the scene. Crews foamed the truck to keep it from catching fire. By Thursday night, the truck was set upright and towed away.

Officials brought in another tanker to off-load the fuel.

Foam was used to help contain the fuel spill at the scene as a precaution against a possible fire.

The truck’s driver was injured in the crash. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

As of 4 p.m., several vehicles involved in the cleanup could be seen parked along U.S. 27.

Police have set up a detour. Motorists can go through I-75 and then get back on U.S. 27, south of the incident.
