POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A boat towing company is convinced a man who was caught on camera, Wednesday, is the same man who stole one of their boats Tuesday.

According to Sea Tow, a surveillance camera aboard one of their boats stationed at the Hillsboro Inlet captured the man who may be responsible for stealing one of their other boats, just a day earlier.

In the video, a man smoking a cigarette maneuvered around the boat and attempted to drive it away, early Wednesday morning. Later on, he was able to start the engine but was unable to get the boat in gear. “Yeah, I figured somebody had been on board and threw our lines off,” said Sea Tow Capt. Lu Rodas.

When Rodas went to work Wednesday, he noticed the engine was still running and the ropes were in the water. “They don’t just come off,” he said.

That’s when he checked the tape and found a man in his underwear on board. The company believes he is the same man who they discovered on board a stolen boat in the ocean, Tuesday afternoon.

Now, the Broward Sheriff’s office wants to talk to this man. “It looked like the same man we got in contact with yesterday with a stolen boat, who abandoned the boat, as well,” said a spokesperson for Sea Tow, “and we’re trying to basically find out if anybody in the local area can identify him, so we can figure out who he is, why he’s doing this and try to get him into custody.”

If you have any information on who this man may be, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
