MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Several students were honored with new bikes in a special ceremony Friday.
The winners of the Jennifer Beth Turken Heart Award were honored at Biscayne Elementary in Miami Beach.
Recipients received new bicycles to recognize their acts of kindness towards other students.
The is award named after Jennifer Turken, an elementary school student known for her kind heart. Jennifer died of a brain tumor in 1996. “It’s not just about the bicycles,” said Jennifer Turken’s sister Danny Turken. “It’s about rewarding kids for being kind. And what’s really cool is that it’s not just about the kids, it’s a testament to the parents and to the teachers and to the communities that they’re raising such fabulous children.
The program was started by Jennifer’s parents, and has expanded to include several other local schools.
