NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Some talented young musicians from South Florida are bound for the nation’s capital.

The South Florida Youth Symphony has been invited to play at the prestigious Heritage Music Festival in January.

While in Washington, D.C., they plan to attend the presidential inauguration, but they need a little help. “The World’s Strides Group, that puts on the festival, actually invited a lot of us to come to Washington during this time, to be able to witness the presidential inauguration,” said Marjorie Hanh, the symphony’s executive and musical director. “For many of these kids, they don’t get out of Dade County, let alone see Washington, D.C., and it’s proving to be very difficult for many of the families.”

The musicians have set up a GoFundMe account in hopes of raising the $40,000 for the trip.

The symphony, now in its 52nd year, has never turned away a student over financial concerns.
