SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - One person was taken into custody in connection to a shooting in Southwest Miami-Dade that left another person dead, and sources said it may have begun as a roadside altercation that spiraled into violence.

7News cameras captured crime scene technicians arriving on the scene of the shooting, near Southwest 192nd Street and 197th Avenue, in Southwest Miami-Dade, Sunday evening.

According to Miami-Dade Police, at around 6 p.m., a confrontation between a 57-year-old driver of a vehicle and the 43-year-old driver of an ATV erupted in gunfire in the middle of the road.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced 43-year-old Enrique Iglesias dead upon arrival to the scene. Fifty-seven-year-old Andres Diaz stayed on the scene and was later taken into custody.

“This is really a bad situation that should’ve been prevented a long time ago,” said Odalys Hayes who lives nearby.

According to Hayes, the ATV riders are known as the “Weekend Warriors,” a group of men and some kids who have been recklessly riding around the area for more than a year.

“We have these ATVs riding around here in groups of 30 or so, speeding on 197th Avenue,” she said, “so it didn’t surprise me that somebody, one day, would lose it and it would be a tragedy like yesterday. Because, now, it’s two families with a tragedy that could have been avoided.”

Iglesias’ aunt, who didn’t want to show her face, spoke to 7News through a translator, Wednesday afternoon.

“This can’t continue. It doesn’t matter what or who they are,” she said. “No one has the right to take anyone’s life away.”

The victim’s family also said that a woman was on the ATV with Iglesias at the time of the incident.

That woman could play an important role in the investigation, as police work with the state attorney’s office to determine if charges will be filed against Diaz.
