WILTON MANORS, Fla. (WSVN) — Several cars outside of a Wilton Manors apartment complex were vandalized when someone slashed their tires overnight, Tuesday.

Multiple tires were slashed outside the Wilton Place Apartments, near Northeast Ninth Avenue and 26th Street, along with other vehicles in the area.

Surveillance captured what appears to be a potential suspect kneeling down near a car and possibly slashing the tire before walking away. “The guy obviously planned a lot,” said one man after seeing the surveillance footage. “He went around to all these cars, more than 18 cars, stabbed each tire, one tire on each car — that takes concentration.”

“Well, I actually got into my car, and I started it, and then my neighbor came over and said, ‘Everybody’s tires have been slashed,'” said Frankie Marquit. “I’m still wondering what would be the motive for that.”

Many residents believe that due to a high population of gay people in Wilton Manors, the vandalism may actually be a hate crime. “It’s a hate crime as far as I’m concerned,” said resident Jim Valkus. “They made a sweep of this whole area … It’s upsetting.”

Nothing appeared to be stolen from the vehicles, and the man in the video does not appear to be in a hurry.

“It was just random,” said Heather, another victim. “Just random meanness, and that I don’t get.”

Police believe the subject is a white or Hispanic male with short, dark hair,  who wears eyeglasses.
