(WSVN) - Several municipalities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties are hosting sandbag distributions this week to help residents protect their property from inclement weather expected to affect South Florida, as Hurricane Ian approaches western Cuba and inches closer to the Sunshine State.

In Miami, sandbag distributions was held Sunday were being held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following parks:

  • Grapeland Park, 1550 NW 37th Ave., Miami, FL 33125
  • Little Haiti Soccer Park, 6301 NE 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33138
  • Douglas Park, 2755 SW 37 Ave., Miami, FL 33133

In West Miami-Dade, 1,000 bags and sand will be provided beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Rudy’s Ready Mix, located at 7301 NW 47th St.

In North Miami Beach, sandbags will be distributed between 7 a.m. and noon on Tuesday at the City of North Miami Beach Fleet Maintenance Building, located at 1965 NE 151 St.

North Miami Beach residents need to bring a valid ID upon arrival to collect a maximum of four sandbags per household.

Doral will have free sandbags for self-service available for residents and businesses at an empty lot on Northwest 53rd Street and 83rd Avenue, near Cordoba Apartments. They have shovels and bags at the location while supplies last.

In Lauderhill, the city will have sand and sandbags available Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while supplies last and weather permits, at the following two locations:

  • Veterans Park, 7600 NW 50 St., Lauderhill, FL 33351
  • Wolf Park, 1080 NW 42nd Way, Lauderhill, FL 33313

Residents must provide proof of residency to obtain sandbags.

In Miramar, the city will provide sandbags between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while supplies last, at the following three locations:

  • Adult Day Care Center, 8915 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, FL 33025
  • Multi Service Complex, 6700 Miramar Parkway, Miramar, FL 33023
  • Sunset Lakes Community Center, 2801 SW 186th Ave, Miramar FL 33029

In Miami Gardens there will be sandbag distributions on Tuesday at the north end of the Archdiocese property located at 1833 NW 12th Avenue until noon. It is located next to the Senior Family Center. They will be handing out sandbags for local residents with valid ID. Seven bags per household is the limit until supplies last.

Hialeah Gardens will also be giving away sandbags at the Hialeah Gardens Water and Sewer Department yard located at 13601 NW 107th Avenue. Bags will be distributed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; the limit is five bags per resident.

Residents will also need to provide proof of residency, and business owners need to provide a copy of their business tax receipt.

There is a limit of six sandbags per household or business on a first-come, first-served basis at the Miramar locations.
