MIAMI (WSVN) - A public viewing was held for a beloved South Florida officer who died in a multi-vehicle crash, Tuesday.

The viewing for Miami Police Department officer Jorge Sanchez, was held Thursday from 7 p.m. to midnight, at the Vior Funeral Home along Second Street and Northwest 37th Avenue, in Miami.

Co-workers gathered Wednesday afternoon, as the body of officer Sanchez was taken from the medical examiner’s office to the funeral home.

Sanchez had been with the department for 21 years, and was set to retire in a few months.

“He was a great guy,” said Miami Fraternal Order of Police President Javier Ortiz. “A very charismatic man, very giving. I had been working with him actually, the night before, during Halloween. And he was doing what he loved to do, and that’s being a Miami Police Officer.”

According to investigators, a car slammed into the veteran motorcycle officer, triggering a chain-reaction crash Tuesday, in West Miami-Dade.

Ten others were injured in the collision.

Sanchez’s funeral will be Friday morning at 10 a.m., at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, located at 29th Avenue and West Flagler street.
