PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) – A Pembroke Pines 16-year-old faced a judge, Thursday, after, police said, he shot another teen in the forehead.

A judge ordered 16-year-old Nathan Jamil Walker to remain in custody, at least for the next 21 days, as prosecutors decide whether or not to charge him as an adult or as a juvenile.

Walker was arrested at his Pembroke Pines home, Wednesday afternoon, after, Pembroke Pines police said, he shot his friend in the head while inside his friend’s home, at around 12:30 p.m.

The 15-year-old victim was then rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital. He was conscious and alert during ground transport.

Walker told police he had bought the gun for $230, a few months ago, and believed it was unloaded when he showed his friend the gun and accidentally shot him.

Walker’s defense attorney, Neil Kerch, said, “We know there was a tragic accident, and we’re hoping and praying that the child makes a full recovery. It’s too early for us to know what happened. I know that he is alive, and he’s in the hospital. We’re hoping for a speedy recovery.”

Thursday, the victim remained at the hospital. However, his condition remains unknown at this time. Officials said there was no exit wound in the victim’s head, so it is unclear whether the teen was shot or grazed.

Police continue to investigate the case and plan on tracking where the gun was originally purchased.
