POMPANO BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - Pokemon Go players came together at a South Florida flea market to catch ’em all while also receiving some tips to do so safely.

Festival Flea Market in Pompano Beach teamed up with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Hybrid Hype Gaming to host Sunday’s meet-up. Players of the smartphone game got the chance to search for their favorite animated creatures while they chowed down on free pizza and drinks.

The mall’s marketing director said the inclement weather led to a strong turnout for the event. “Since the weather is lousy out, and we’re indoors, air-conditioned and have free Wi-Fi, we’ve gotten a really great turnout,” said Lisa Zen. “We’re very happy.”

BSO deputies were on hand to remind players to stay safe. “We thought this was really important,” said BSO spokesperson Wally Eccleston. “This is an amazing phenomenon. People are coming from all over to play this game and to catch ’em all, and we want them to be safe, first and foremost.”

The mall sent the first 300 players home with goodie bags and team shirts.
