WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A man accused of shooting and robbing a Swedish student in Wynwood in early June will remain behind bars after he faced a judge, Friday afternoon.
Twenty-five-year-old suspect Devin Lewis was arrested, Friday morning. He is facing charges of attempted murder and armed robbery with a firearm.
According to officials, Frank Hammar, a 28-year-old graduate of Miami Ad School, was ambushed by Lewis and another suspect after having a celebratory dinner with his parents at Wynwood Diner on June 7.
Surveillance video captured the moment Hammar was approached by the two men near the intersection of Northwest Second Avenue and 26th Street. He was shot twice in the abdomen after being forced to give up his cellphone and wallet.
Hammar was released from the hospital on June 17. Despite the whole ordeal, he said he is just happy be alive. “Every single day, I understood better and better how lucky I was that both of the bullets literally missed everything,” said Hammar.
Lewis was denied bond. He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Police are still searching for the other man who attacked Hammar.
