MIRAMAR, FLA. (WSVN) - An investigation is underway, after police responded to a possible carjacking in Miramar, Wednesday morning, that left the victim dead.

Miramar Police remain on the scene, along the 7700 block of Alhambra Boulevard, as they continue to investigate the death. They are also still working to verify whether this was a carjacking or a premeditated murder.

According to officials, 24-year-old Gavin Bromfield was shot during that armed carjacking. At least two gunmen took off in the victim’s gray Lexus GS 350. However, that vehicle was recovered a few blocks away from the scene of the shooting.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“There was a confrontation between the victim and unknown suspect or suspects,” Miramar Police Detective Natasha Richardson said. “Consequently the victim was shot and transported to the hospital, where he passed away.”

Wednesday afternoon, family and friends were seen cleaning the front terrace where the tragic incident occurred. According to police, the entire family has been left in shock.

“It’s sad,” Gavin’s sister, Beverly Bromfield, said. “I mean, no family member wants to wake up to such bad news.”

“I’m hurt. I lost my baby brother. He didn’t get a chance,” Babette Bromfield, his other sister, said.

His father said he learned about his son’s death from his wife.

“He got shot somewhere in his mouth,” said his father Barry Bromfield. “My wife called me. She’s at the hospital and said she sees on the news that he died. At the hospital they not giving no information. The police not giving no information.”

Police are investigating whether the shooter or shooters knew the 24-year-old victim when they pulled up to his home.

But Gavin’s friend Danielle Walker, who lives nearby, said she doesn’t think he was mixed up with the wrong people.

“Funny, goofy, never take anything serious. That’s why I’m like, why?” she said. “He doesn’t mix with the wrong people, so I’m over here like, what happened?”

His father said he is still trying to grasp what happened.

“I can’t grip, can’t come together. Like it really, really happened,” Barry said.
