MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - An investigation is underway after shots were fired in Miami Beach.
Miami Beach Police officers responded to the scene along 44th Street and Collins Avenue by the Fountainbleu Hotel after receiving calls of possible shots fired from a vehicle at around 8:28 a.m., Wednesday.
“The information we received was that the shooting was amongst two vehicles, a white Mercedes as well as an SUV, BMW, white in color,” said Miami Beach Police spokesperson Ernesto Rodriguez.
“All I know is she was getting shots or whatever. They shot the window out, I hear shots on the phone and her screaming and panicking,” said a man.
The man, who didn’t want to show his face, said he was on the phone with his girlfriend as she was getting shot at.
“She called my phone screaming. Me and my brother were on three-way trying to look for her the whole time,” he said.
Police arrived on the scene, where they found what appeared to be a bullet hole on a nearby yacht.
Shortly after, officers located a victim in a white Mercedes-Benz near 74th Street and Tatum Waterway Drive.
“The vehicle itself was shot multiple times. The female inside sustained injuries, what appears to be from shattered glass,” Rodriguez said. “She was treated on scene by Miami Beach Fire Rescue and released. She is going to be transported to the Miami Beach Police Department where she’ll be interviewed by detectives.”
After having just reopened, many schools in the area were temporarily put on lockdown as the investigation continued.
“I’m just shook because of something that just doesn’t happen in this area,” said a student.
The department then took to Twitter to announce officers were searching for a white BMW SUV that fled from the original shooting scene.
7SkyForce HD hovered over the active crime scene at 74th Street where investigators could be seen near the Mercedes-Benz with all four doors open, blocked off with crime scene tape.
Bullet holes could also be seen on the vehicle and evidence markers could be seen on the floor surrounding the vehicle.
According to police, the victim and the subjects knew each prior to the shooting. They are still investigating the events that led up to the incident.
Authorities are still searching for the white BMW SUV and said the two subjects inside of the vehicle are the suspected shooters.
