MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida man is facing some serious charges after, investigators said, he lied to police about his girlfriend’s 2-year-old goddaughter being inside his car when it was stolen from a Miami Gardens shopping plaza, Friday night.

Thirty-year-old Doneal Ford has been charged with filing a false police report. Officers said he told them the toddler was inside his yellow 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse that he’d parked in front of a liquor store at the strip mall, located at 4662 N.W. 183rd St., when someone got in the vehicle and drove away.

Ford’s claim sparked a massive manhunt. Investigators later discovered that the girl was safe at home with her mother the entire time.
