MIAMI (WSVN) - Police are continuing their search for a carjacking subject that jumped into the Miami River to evade them.

City of Miami Police officers could be seen searching the area near Northwest 27th Avenue and North River Drive, Wednesday night.

According to police, the subject drove into a canal near the rear of the Miami Bridge and jumped into the water.

Investigators said the carjacker strongarmed a victim for his 2015 Scion TC at around 4 a.m.

7News cameras captured police helicopters circling the area.

Cameras also showed K-9 units searching for several hours for the subject in the area of a mobile home community.

A perimeter was set up near his last known location.

Officers detained a woman at the scene but she was later released.

Police said they were not able to capture the subject.
