PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) – A Pembroke Pines teen accused of shooting and injuring his friend appeared in court.
Nathan Walker was granted a $25,000 bond, Thursday morning.
According to police, on June 1, Walker was playing with a gun inside his home when he shot his 15-year-old friend in the head, leaving him critically injured. A bullet fragment got lodged behind one of his eyes and another bullet severed an artery near his spine.
Officials said the teen confessed to pulling the trigger, but he claimed he didn’t know the gun was loaded. In the 911 phone call released by officials, Walker said to the emergency dispatcher, “Hi, umm, I accidentally shot my friend.”
The dispatcher then asked, “You did what?”
“I accidentally shot my friend,” he repeated, adding, “Hurry, please, I can’t let him die.”
Walker, who is now 17 years old, is being tried as an adult for charges including attempted manslaughter.
The victim has since been released from the hospital but has an extremely long road to recovery.
