SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - An organization dedicated to putting an end to school-style mass shootings is coming to Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

The organization Sandy Hook Promise is rolling out violence prevention programs throughout the district.

A presentation was held Monday at John A. Ferguson Senior High School where special guests came out to speak about the importance of working as a community to raise awareness.

“Everybody has to do their jobs so that the team is successful,” said former Heat player Alonso Mourning. “What I’m really trying to say is that it is going to take a collective effort, diligent effort.”

The organization was started shortly after the 2012 fatal shooting of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary, in Newtown, Connecticut.
