NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A mother was killed and her 19-year-old daughter is in critical condition after an argument between lovers turned deadly in a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.
Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue responded to a report of shots fired along the 2600 block of Northwest 99th Street, at around 9:45 p.m., Wednesday.
According to police, when they arrived at the home, two women were found shot. One of them was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other was discovered with severe injuries. A man was also found with several stab wounds.
Investigators remained on scene, Thursday morning, collecting evidence. Miami-Dade Police homicide detectives believe the tragic incident unfolded during an argument between 41-year-old Jairo Ramon-Media and his girlfriend, 44-year-old Yunia Gomez.
When the argument escalated, Ramon-Media fatally shot Gomez and then shot and critically injured her 19-year-old daughter, Erika Jimenez. Gomez was found dead inside of the home.
Then, detectives believe, he attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself multiple times with a knife. However, his attempt was unsuccessful.
At the scene, Gomez’s body was later placed inside of a plastic bag and transported to the medical examiners office. Her daughter was immediately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She continues to recover at the hospital, Thursday afternoon, and is expected to survive.
Ramon-Media was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery, Thursday, for multiple stab wounds. His condition remains unknown as the procedure is currently taking place, which, according to police, is the reason why no arrests have been made yet.
Officials are now investigating this as a domestic related murder and attempted suicide.
“We all know Jiro,” said Jenny Jean, a neighbor. “We all know the mom there in the community, but we never knew of any domestic issue. Wow, and she was a Christian woman. Yeah, she always, always asked about me and my daughter, always prayed, always kept me encouraged.”
But police told 7News this was not the first time they had responded to this home address.
The investigation remains ongoing.
