Officers and youth community come together for sports

Craig Stevens

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Some Miami-Dade Police officers are engaging in community policing.

Officers of the Youth Outreach Unit played basketball, Monday afternoon, with local kids along Northwest 12th Avenue and 103rd Street in Northwest Miami-Dade.

They’re part of a special unit meant to strengthen the bond between residents and police in order to open lines of communications for kids in need.

The apartment complex where officers and youth played basketball was the same complex where 6-year-old King Carter was shot and killed earlier this year by a stray bullet.
