NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - A North Miami Beach Police officer has been arrested for kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach.
According to Miami Beach Police, North Miami Beach officer Ambar Pacheco was off duty when she was arrested in Miami Beach Wednesday.
In a police report, the victim said Pacheco struck her in the stomach. The expecting mother was eight months pregnant and had a due date of Aug. 4.
Police said the victim went into premature labor following the beating. The victim’s boyfriend, Joseph Predelus, welcomed his child alongside his girlfriend Evony and described the birth.
“It was stressful because I had to go through it,” said Predelus. “Luckily, we had got her to Mount Sinai just in time because it only took seven minutes for the labor.”
Despite the brutal attack, baby Joe appears to be healthy and is expected to be OK.
“When he was born, it put a smile on my face, and all my concern was if he was healthy,” said Predelus.
Predelus said he was walking back from work on South Beach with his girlfriend when she was attacked by Pacheco.
The arrest report states that there was an altercation between Pacheco, and the victim’s boyfriend. The officer told police that the victim’s boyfriend kicked her sister in the face, and then Pacheco began kicking the woman.
“I never did no kicking, nothing. I never touched nobody,” said Predelus. “All I did was defend my baby mother and a child. To me, I don’t put my hands on women and that’s how it should be, especially a pregnant woman too.”
Predelus believes the officer was not sober at the time of the attack.
“They probably was drunk,” he said. “As I was talking to the police, I realized they were drunk, so I guess the alcohol probably kicked in. Like I said, we were minding our own business, just walked by, and I was talking to my baby mother, said she was so emotional, and the girl figured that she was talking to them. Like I said, she came towards, talking about, ‘What that be said?’ and then tried to attack her.”
Predelus also had a message for the officer who attacked his girlfriend.
“Whatever happened to you, whatever you got coming to you, you deserve it, you should’ve been more professional,” he said. “Like I said, we didn’t have no problems with you. We didn’t start any trouble.”
The North Miami Beach Police Department released a statement regarding the attack:
“Officer Pacheco has been relieved of duty pending an internal affairs review.”
Pacheco was not in uniform at the time.
She has been charged with aggravated battery.
