MIAMI (WSVN) - Health officials issued a mosquito-borne illness advisory, Tuesday, after a case of Dengue fever was confirmed in Miami-Dade County.
The Florida Department of Health announced a confirmed case of locally-acquired Dengue fever, which is primarily spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes.
Dengue fever has flu-like symptoms such as muscle aches, headaches, fever and rash. Most of the symptoms go away after two to seven days.
The department said in a press release that the person received medical treatment and is expected to fully recover.
“The department is investigating close contacts around the individual to determine if additional people are infected,” the release said. “Miami-Dade Mosquito Control has been notified and is conducting aggressive mosquito control efforts in the area of concern.”
This is the second locally-acquired case in Florida this year and the first in Miami-Dade County.
